Jake is a typical boy, who has the secret task of protecting a community of magical creatures who live undetected in New York. What makes Jake able to do this is the fact that he is a shape-shifting dragon! He lives with his parents and younger sister, Haley. Hi parents are normal, while his grandfather and sister are also dragons. His dad doens't suspect a thing!
Jake is trained how to use his mystical powers by his grandfather and a 600-year-old Shar Pei named Fu Dog. He needs these powers to defend the other magical creatures from the various people out to get them - number one being the terrible Huntsclan led by the Huntsman. He shares his secret with his best friends, Spud and Trixie. Jake is often torn between his normal life as a schoolboy, and the role he plays as a magical guardian.
